September 16, 2011 (Ezekiel 40-41; Psalm 128; Revelation 21)
From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8 NASB
Observation: What joy and splendor await those who are faithful to the end and overcome, but woe to the one’s who have rejected God and His holy standards. God’s judgment of sin will be just and fair. Those who walk contrary to God’s ways will have their part, or place, in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. This is the second death and eternal separation from God.
Application: Here we read a warning of what’s to come to those who walk in sin. I can’t think of a better reason why we should guard ourselves from sin! A lake that burns with fire and brimstone don’t sound to pleasant to me. So much more the reason we should repent and walk away from sin today! And don’t miss that “all liars” part, don’t you want to start speaking the truth now?
Prayer: Father, as I read Your word sometimes it seems so extreme, but I know Your ways are higher than mine. I know You will justly and rightly judge sin and the punishment will fit the crime. Deliver me from the paths of sin. Keep me from any way or thing that displeases You. Make me what You want me to be. By Your Spirit strengthen me to overcome, by the blood of the Lamb cleanse me and make me whole. In Jesus name, Amen.
