August 27, 2011 (Jeremiah 52; Revelation 1; Psalm 143-144)
From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart is appalled within me.” Psalm 143:4 NASB
Observation: This is when you seek God with your whole heart. David was at the end of his rope so to speak. He was at the end of what he could do in his own strength. His spirit had become overwhelmed when he realized just how weak he was. His heart was filled with fear of what was going to happen to him. Here David was seeking God with a broken will, and a humbled spirit.
Application: We read of David and think of how wonderful it was to seek God on this level. But do we ever stop and think of the agony David was in? Do you realize to seek God on this level you must come to the point where you have no more strength. Have you ever felt your spirit was overwhelmed? Has your heart ever been filled with theĀ fear of an enemy? These are not pleasant times in our lives, but without them we would never know a seeking experience like this.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I am instructed in Your word to give thanks in all things, so I thank you for the trials that lead me to the end of myself. My spirit is overwhelmed and my heart is filled with fear from the roar of my enemy. I seek you with my whole heart, deliver me from the hands of my enemy. Lift me up from the depths of despair, set my feet on solid, stable ground. Move on my behalf because of Your names sake. Protect me, for I am Yours! In Jesus name, Amen.
