“Perhaps They Will Listen”

August 18, 2011 (Jeremiah 26, 35-36; John 20)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Perhaps they will listen and everyone will turn from his evil way, that I may repent of the calamity which I am planning to do to them because of the evil of their deeds.” Jeremiah 26:3 NASB

Observation: God has instructed Jeremiah to stand up and preach the word of the Lord one more time. God is patient, but His patience eventually runs out. Jeremiah once again proclaimed the word of the Lord to the people and what did they want to do? They wanted to kill Jeremiah. All God wanted was for them to hear the warning alarm, repent of their sin and turn back to Him, but that was too much to ask.

Application: It’s really no different today. All God want’s, is for you and me, to hear the warning alarm, repent of our sins and turn back to Him, and yet again that’s too much to ask of us. We still seek to kill the messenger of God instead of heeding the message and repenting. Our lives suffer greatly because of sin and God has provided the remedy but we refuse it. To accept Christ is to die to ourselves and that price is just too much for us to pay.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Your mercy and patience. It astounds me. I know You have many who have not bowed their knee to baal and turned from You and worshipped other gods. Strentghen each one, called by Your name to proclaim a message of warning in these desperate times. Anoint ears to hear and hearts to recieve Your instruction. Lord Jesus, come quickly, in Jesus name, Amen.
