August 17, 2011 (Jeremiah 23, 25; John 19)
From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “Jesus answered, you would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” John 19:11 NASB
Observation: Jesus was unjustly accused. He was completely innocent and yet false accusations were being made by evil self-willed people against Him. Pilate felt like he had great power of his own ability, but Jesus let him know the power he had was given by divine providence. Notice too that the one’s who delivered Jesus to Pilate had the greater sin resting upon their head.
Application: We should be careful about how we bring people to justice in this world. The people that delivered Jesus to the high court were the religious group of that day that believed within their own heart they loved God and was doing Him a service. Yet they prove by their actions that they really only loved themselves. When you’re delivered before the courts by evil self-willed rebellious people, remember that though the court may play a role in the outcome, just as in the case of Jesus, but the one that brought you falsely before them is guilty of the greater sin. Surely, those that deliver the innocent falsely before the court will not go unpunished.
Prayer: Father thank you for Your word that proclaims You love justice. Thank You for watching over Your children that are being falsely accused and drug before the high courts. Provide wisdom for the judge to understand completely. Provide courage for them to rule righteously. Punish the wicked that bring forth false allegations against Your children in an effort to fullfil the lust for material things that has overtaken their heart. Save them from themselves and rescue them from the snare of satan. Replace the need for material things in their life, with a desire and longing for You, in Jesus name, Amen.
