“Prayer of Your People”

June 28, 2011 (Amos 1-3; Psalm 80; II Timothy 4)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “How long will you be angry with the prayer of your people?” Psalm 80:4 NASB

Observation: I’ve really never thought about God being upset with my prayers. But I see here that when we live in a constant state of rebellion against God and His standards, He does indeed get angry, even at out prayers. I mean face it, most of the time when we pray, we’re asking God for something!

Application: It makes since to me when I think of it like this. I have a beautiful daughter, that I love very much. When she mis-behaves and does things she knows isn’t right, it makes me mad that she has the nerve to ask me for something favorable after acting that way. I think that must be how I make God feel. When I do things that I know would not be pleasing to Him, and then have the nerve to ask for His favor, how angry He should be!

Prayer: Father forgive me for being so selfish. I’ve never considered how you must feel when I sin before you, yet I continue to ask for your favor, without repenting and seeking your forgiveness first. Wash me clean in your site, place with-in me a right spirit that is pleasing in your site. Forgive me I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.
