June 27, 2011 ( II Kings 13-14; II Chronicles 25; II Timothy 3)
From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die….” II Kings 13:14
Observation: Elisha was a prophet that God was with, and yet he became sick with an illness of which he was to die of. I’m sure Elisha didn’t want to suffer a dreadful disease, but it was God’s will and part of His plan for whatever reason. It brings to me some peace about why people get cancer, leukemia, heart disease and such. It could be the sickness in which God said they are to die of. If that’s the case, who are we to question God?
Application: Learn to trust God in life and in death. He knows what He’s doing and just how to do it. Although it’s hard for us to see our friends and loved ones suffer from sickness, we must realize that death through sickness is just one way to pass from life to life eternal. If you know Christ, and He knows you, there will be nothing to fear when you cross over!
Prayer: Father thank you for your words of understanding today. Strengthen my faith to trust you in life and in death. Help me to embrace your will even when I don’t understand it. In Jesus name, Amen.
