June 24, 2011 (II Kings 11-12; II Chronicles 24; I Timothy 6)
From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.” I Timothy 6:17 NASB
Observation: Through out history man has put his hope in the quickly vanishing riches of this life. Here we read Paul’s instruction on what to “fix” our hope upon. If you hope in your riches, your hope will be destroyed in the day of calamity. But when your hope is fixed on God, you will enjoy all that you have, rather it be great or small.
Application: Learn how to give. I’ve learned over the past few years that I can’t out give God. When I do what pleases Him with what I have, He gives me more. I’ve also learned that 100% of what I have is His, not just 10%. When you learn how to give to others and correctly manage all of God’s possessions, then a peace that surpasses our understanding fills us and brings contentment.
Prayer: My father, thank you so much for all you’ve given me. Help me understand how you would have it managed. May your peace and contentment reign in my heart and soul. Fix my hope on you, and you alone. Humble me or exalt me as you see fit, in Jesus name, Amen.
