From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:
Scripture: “Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon while he was still alive, saying, How do you counsel me to answer this people?” II Chronicles 10:6 NASB
Observation: Those in leadership don’t always have the right answer. It seems Rehoboam was wise enough to seek counsel, but lacked good judgement when it came to putting that counsel into action. He sought the counsel of the elders that had life experience and also the counsel of those that he had grew up with. He used the counsel of the young and made life hard for many.
Application: When seeking counsel consider the counselor. What are the motives behind their instruction? When you seek instruction from someone look for Jesus in the wisdom provided. Is Jesus present? Elders are not always right but they do have life experience that should lend an advantage in instruction. Seek the counsel of others but most of all seek counsel from God’s word.
Prayer: Father thank you for the lesson this morning. Help me seek out and listen to Godly counsel. Protect me from acting on improper advice. Remind me to seek you in all things and find you in any instruction I receive from others. In Jesus name, Amen.
