June 12, 2011 ( I Kings 12; II Chronicles 10-11; Philippians 2)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon while he was still alive, saying, How do you counsel me to answer this people?”    II Chronicles 10:6 NASB

Observation: Those in leadership don’t always have the right answer. It seems Rehoboam was wise enough to seek counsel, but lacked good judgement when it came to putting that counsel into action. He sought the counsel of the elders that had life experience and also the counsel of those that he had grew up with. He used the counsel of the young and made life hard for many.

Application: When seeking counsel consider the counselor. What are the motives behind their instruction? When you seek instruction from someone look for Jesus in the wisdom provided. Is Jesus present? Elders are not always right but they do have life experience that should lend an advantage in instruction. Seek the counsel of others but most of all seek counsel from God’s word.

Prayer: Father thank you for the lesson this morning. Help me seek out and listen to Godly counsel. Protect me from acting on improper advice. Remind me to seek you in all things and find you in any instruction I receive from others. In Jesus name, Amen.

June 11, 2011 (Song of Solomon 5-8; Philippians 1)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Who is this that grows like the dawn, as beautiful as the full moon, as pure as the sun, as awesome as an army with banners?” Song of Solomon 6:10 NASB

Observation: Love captivates you. When you love someone your eyes see the beauty of what God has created. You cannot see faults and blemishes, because love makes those things not exist. All you’ll see is the beauty your heart has revealed to your eyes.

Application: Don’t be shallow. Look beyond what just the world can see. Be captivated by her beauty like the sunrise in the cool morning breeze. Love her like the ocean waves, faithful and true forever and ever.

Prayer: Father I thank you for the beautiful wife you’ve given me. Thank you for the beauty in her I see that you’ve revealed to my heart. May my eye’s always see it, may I always long for her and her alone. Captivate me again and again with her love. In Jesus name, Amen.

June 10, 2011 (Song of Solomon 1-4; Ephesians 6)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 NASB

Observation: Children have to be taught, they come prewired knowing how to do wrong, not right. It’s up to us, the parents, to teach them about Jesus and the will of God for their life. Godly discipline and instruction is a necessity and should be done with wisdom.

Application: Be stable. Provide an environment that has a consistent atmosphere for your children to learn and grow in. Teach Godly boundries, make known clearly what’s acceptable.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for the blessing of being a father. Thank you for providing a stable and consistent home for Gracie to be raised in. Thank you for providing me a Godly wife, that works with me and desires what’s best for our daughter. Protect our family from all evil. In Jesus name, Amen.

June 9, 2011 (Ecclesiastes 10-12; Psalms 94; Ephesians 5)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture:  “If I should say “My foot has slipped,” your lovingkindness, O Lord, will hold me up.” Psalm 94:18 NASB

Observation: Oh how many times my foot has slipped. But true to His word He holds me up. He lifts me up and sets me aright by His grace. His lovingkindness is beyond my understanding.

Application: Strive to be faithful. Work hard to do whats right in God’s eyes. Trust God to provide the wisdom, knowledge and strength to live the way He says live. Remember, He is always near and He will hold me up.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your lovingkindness. Thank you for holding me up when I want to quit. Thank you for your grace that I need daily. Help me to fight the good fight, keep the faith and finish what you’ve called me to do. In Jesus name hold me up when my foot slips, restore me. Amen.

June 8, 2011 (Ecclesiastes 7-9; Ephesians 4)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “In the day of prosperity be happy, but in the day of adversity consider – God has made the one as well as the other….” Ecclesiates 7:14 NASB

Observation: Prosperity and Adversity belong to the Lord. He uses them both to guide us into His truth.

Application: Be happy and rejoice when things are going good. When adversity comes stop and consider why. Is God trying to get my attention? Is He trying to change or redirect my course? Think about it.

Prayer: God thank you for your blessings on me. Allow me to be happy when things are good, yet humble. Help me to remember you in all things, good or bad. When adversity comes help me find you and your wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
