“The Approval of God”

August 10, 2011 (Jeremiah 5-6; John 12)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “For they loved the praise of men rather than the approval of God.” John 12:43 NASB

Observation: Many of the rulers believed in Jesus, but did not openly confess Him because of the fear of being put out of the temple. The praise of men was more valuable to them than the approval of God. So who were they serving? More importantly, who are we serving?

Application: If we’re not careful we can find ourselves doing the same thing in today’s world. Being more concerned about what men think of us and how they will receive or reject us causes us to place great value in the wrong place. As a Christian, our desire should be to win the approval of God at any cost, whatever happens. Glory and praise belong to God and He alone is deserving of it all.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your love and mercy. Help me I pray, value Your approval more than the praise of men. Instill in me the courage to stand and live in a manner that is pleasing to You, regardless of what men think. If I get thrown out of the temple for seeking Your approval, grant me the courage to rest in You. Father I seek to be with people who love and desire you and Your will. Help me find where they are, in Jesus name, Amen.
