“Show the Love!”

August 22, 2013 (Jeremiah 28-30; 1 John 3)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18 NLT

Observation: John is relaying a gospel truth that all too often gets forgotten. We learn to speak the “Church” language but often times forget to live what we say we believe. John was saying, talk is cheap, if you really love me show me by the way you act! Real love is an action, not a feeling. It produces selfless, sacrificial giving. The greatest act of love is giving oneself for others. There is no greater love than to be willing to lay down your life for another. Our actions not only express our love to others but they also testify of our living in God’s truth. When we live in the truth and love as we should we can confidently stand before God knowing He will be pleased.

Application: What are some practical ways you can share love with someone today? Maybe a kind word or a simple smile as you pick up your morning coffee. Perhaps taking an extra thirty seconds to give your wife a real hug and kiss before you sprint out the door for work. I can think of no greater expression of love than to kneel down in prayer and lift up a brother or sister that may be facing a tough situation. Perhaps taking the time to listen to someone’s struggles instead of always telling about yours would express a sincere love for another. Maybe take a coworker out to lunch today and let them know how much you appreciate their hard work and faithful dedication. Perhaps a simple phone call to someone you haven’t spoken too in some time. There are many ways to express love, but if we only talk about it no one will ever experience it. Get into action, love someone today!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for loving me. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die in my place, truly there is no greater example of love than this. Help me know how to love in ways that please You. Place opportunities for me to love along the path I trod today. Thank You for Your mercy and grace that provide and protect me every day, in Jesus name, Amen!
