“Superficial Faith”

July 31, 2011 (Isaiah 63-64; Psalm 107; John 2)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men” John 2:24 NASB

Observation: Here Jesus is in Jerusalem at the Passover and many have professed to believe in Him. But He’s not fooled. He knows the very heart of man and knows how deceitful it can be. A superficial profession of faith will cause a person to claim a relationship with Christ when things are going good and they are receiving no resistance for being a follower of Christ. But when adversity comes, a superficial profession of faith turns into a voice that cries out “Crucify Him”.

Application: It’s easy to believe in Christ when there’s excitement and you’re surrounded by a group of people that believe the same way. But how about the times when the majority are professing to know God, but their actions are going against His plain truth? Do you stand up and proclaim God’s truth to them or do you just go with the flow? If you only stand up for Christ when surrounded by a like-minded crowd, there’s a good chance your profession of faith is superficial, and when adversity comes you will be among those who yell out “crucify Him”.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this day. Thank you for Your word that speaks, guides, and provides for my soul. Father bless my faith in You, cause it to grow and remain firm even in the face of adversity. Cause my faith to be deeply rooted within You and not just be a superficial outside kind of faith. When my enemies roar, fan the flame of faith within me and arise to fight for me. In Jesus name, Amen.

“Arise & Shine”

July 30, 2011 (Isaiah 60-62; John 1)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.” Isaiah 60:1 NASB

Observation: God’s bright glory will cause us to arise and shine the light He has given us to the world around us. They will see the strength of the Lord upon us and know He is ours and we are His.

Application: It’s time for the Christian to Arise! Let the glory of the Lord shine upon you. Wake up from your long nap and Arise! Proclaim to the world that Jesus is alive and has His arms outstretched bidding all to come unto Him.

Prayer: Father, I praise You, for You are holy, holy, holy. Thank you for Your light that shines upon us and fills us with hope from Your glory. Order my footsteps to walk in the path you have laid for me. Strengthen me to stand. My abilities are weak, but You are my strength. I seek You, I knock, please Lord open the door! Let Your glory shine upon me, let me arise. In Jesus name, Amen.

“You and Your God”

July 29, 2011 (Isaiah 57-59; Psalm 103; 2 Peter 3)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” Isaiah 59:2 NASB

Observation: God don’t like sin. He turns His face away from it because He can’t stand to see it. His ears are closed because He can’t stand to hear it. The sin of disobedience is what separated man from God in the Garden of Eden and sin separates man from God today. Jesus didn’t die on a cross so that your sin could be justified, He gave His life so that through Him you could be justified to the Father. Those that continue to walk in a life of sin do not have the power of Christ living in them.

Application: Sin must be purged from our life. No matter how much we love what we’re doing against God’s will and word, we must repent. To repent is not simply a change of mind, but it’s a change of action! When we openly sin before God, His face is turned away from us, His ears are closed to our petitions. He must hear us cry out, sincerely in repentance, before we can be reunited together with Him. His ears are closed to sin, but they are open and listening for a plea of repentance.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being Holy and never changing. You are our Rock that never changes and is always solid. Cleanse me from all sin and turn your face toward me. Look upon me and examine me, make sure Your’e pleased with what you see. Open your ears to hear my petitions and commune with me daily. Walk in the coolness of the evening with Your creation made in Your image. In Jesus name, Amen.

“What’s Been Handed To You?”

July 28, 2011 (Isaiah 53-56; 2 Peter 2)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.” 2 Peter 2:21 NASB

Observation: For those who God reveals the knowledge of truth to turn away from it is quite devastating. How can one taste of the Lord and see His goodness and turn back to a life of sin and darkness. For it would have been better for them to have never known because the last state of this person is worse than the first.

Application: In a time where apostasy is openly practiced within the church we must be more determined than ever not to only talk the talk, but to walk the walk. Many leaders within the church teach that for a believer to be apostate is not possible, but that is contrary to God’s word and therefore false. Run, don’t walk, run from such falsehood. For if apostasy were not possible then the above scripture has no meaning.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Your many blessings, grace, mercy and forgiveness. I pray today for Your people, strengthen us to stand firm on Your word and wait upon you. Fill us with Your Spirit that will cause us to walk uprightly and pleasing to You. Hold my hands to the plow and cause my eyes to stay focused on You. In Jesus name, Amen.

“God Has Opened My Ear”

July 27, 2011 (Isaiah 50-52; Psalm 92; 2 Peter 1)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “The Lord God has opened my ear; and I was not disobedient, nor did I turn back.” Isaiah 50:5 NASB

Observation: Isaiah was hearing from God. God was leading him in what to proclaim and pronounce. It was not always a pleasant message however, Isaiah was faithful to God. God had opened his ears to hear and Isaiah was obedient, not disobedient, and he did not let up or turn back.

Application: We have Isaiah as a teacher. He leads us by example in how we are to respond to what God speaks to us. We are to be eager to listen to what God has to say and willing to go forth with the message. It may cause our backs to be beaten, it may cause our face to be slapped, it may bring on us humiliation, but don’t cover your face, for God is our help. Therefore, I am not disgraced, my face is set like a flint, and I know I will not be ashamed.

Prayer: Father Your ways are so much higher than ours. My mind struggles to understand all that You reveal to me. My ears are opened, speak words of understanding to my soul. Instill courage to speak the message You’ve given me in spite of the consequences I may face. Help me Lord be willing to sacrifice my all, for Your glory, in Jesus name, Amen.

“Lord, Teach Me To Profit”

July 26, 2011 (Isaiah 46-49; 1 Peter 5)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17 NASB

Observation: God knows whats best for us. He leads us in the way we should go and His ways lead us to profit. Even in trials and affliction He is honored and praised. Discipline is not a pleasurable experience but when it’s applied it produces profit for the one receiving it.

Application: Trust the Lord. His ways are the best ways! When we hear His words and listen to His directions our lives will profit. Maybe not as the world sees profit, but real profit that will never fade or be eaten by a moth. Who knows their own future? None but the Lord, and He knows the way. Come, follow Him.

Prayer: Thank you Father for Your loving kindness. You lead me beside the still waters where I can drink without fear. You teach me how to profit, how to gain riches that cannot be destroyed or stolen. Lead me in the way You would have me to go, open my ears to hear You say, “this is the way, walk in it” in Jesus name, Amen.

“There is No Rock Like My God”

July 25, 2011 (Isaiah 43-45; 1 Peter 4)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend.” Isaiah 44:18 NASB

Observation: Those that worship false gods are blinded and cannot see that idolatry has led to their destruction. “They have no knowledge, who carry about their wooden idol and pray to a god who cannot save.” Isaiah 45:20 For there is one God. He alone is the Rock and Salvation of all creation. Is there any God besides Him, or is there any other Rock? I know of none.

Application: So who are these people that have had their eyes and hearts smeared over? Could it be you? Could it be me? Have we set before us idols to worship and pray to a god that cannot save? Have we turned the God of heaven into nothing more than a wooden idol? Many people carry around a cross, they hang them on walls, they wear them on a chain, they tattoo them on their bodies, but has the cross become our idol? If we carry a cross and profess to know Him, but refuse to submit to the authority of Christ, we worship a god we have made up. If we believe in Christ, we will submit ourselves to Him.

Prayer: Father thank you for Your word. Praise Your name forever, for You are God and the Rock of Salvation. God I pray that the scales of blindness would be removed. Let my eyes clearly see You and my heart know Your will. Cleanse me completely so that I may worship You, in spirit and in truth. In Jesus name, Amen.
