“Truly this was the Son of God”

November 27, 2011 (Psalm 125; Matthew 26-27)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, Truly this was the Son of God!” Matthew 27:54 NASB

Observation: From noon until 3:00 pm darkness fell upon the land. Around 3:00 pm Christ died. The Veil of the temple was torn into from top to bottom, the earth shook and the rocks split open, the tombs were opened and many bodies of the saints were raised. At this point the guards realized truly this was the Son of God. They became frightened because they realized what they had done.

Application: Often times we see miraculous signs and wonders around us too proclaiming God’s presence and existence. But we fail to recognize the evidence as clearly as the centurion guards did. Hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes now days are viewed as nothing more than “mother nature”, rather than a powerful move of Almighty God. But with all man’s understanding and strength we still cannot control the path any of these powerful acts of God. When the wind blows, or the earth quakes, we should wake up and pay attention to what God is saying!

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for Your mighty power and glory! You are wonderful and are great to be praised. I worship You today for who You are! Help me to see the forest before me. Clear my vision from the trees that blind me. Truly Jesus is the Son of God and He is the way of salvation. He has risen, and is alive today, to provide hope to all mankind. By Your power and might reveal Your Son to us today, in Jesus name, Amen!

“Gather me, under Your wings”

November 26, 2011 (Matthew 23-25)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” Matthew 23:37 NASB

Observation: God sent prophets and preachers to proclaim the message of God to His people. They stoned and killed the ones sent to them with a divine message. God wanted to gather His children up like a hen does her own and protect them, but they would not come unto Him. He offered protection and provision but His own people refused to receive the blessings He had offered.

Application: God is still proclaiming the message of salvation through prophets and preachers today. He still desires to protect and provide for those who are called according to His purpose. If they would only come unto Him, He could place them under the wings of the almighty and provide all their needs. But still today, we persecute and stone the ones God has called to proclaim the message of repentance. Refusing to repent and submit ourselves to Christ, we reject the Masters offer of provision and protection.

Prayer: Father, glory and honor to Your name. For You are holy and just for all eternity. Thank You for Your patience towards us and Your grace and mercy You give in spite of what we deserve. Anoint our ears to hear the message of repentance and take heed to it. Gather me under Your wing, almighty Father, and protect and provide for me like only You can. I come unto You! In Jesus name, Amen!

“They were unwilling to come”

November 25, 2011 (Matthew 20-22)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.” Matthew 22:3 NASB

Observation: Here Jesus is presenting a parable in relation to those who are being called to salvation. The slaves are the ones called to proclaim and deliver the message of repentance to the people that are lost and dying. The one’s unwilling to come are the people that refuse and reject the gospel message. They pay no attention to it and go their own way, more concerned about their earthly possessions and business than the eternal things of God. Not only do they reject the message but they seize the slaves, mistreat and kill them. (Verses 5-6)

Application: Christ has sent us out to proclaim the gospel message of repentance, inviting many to come to the kingdom of God. The message of repentance has cost many faithful slaves of Christ their earthly life. For thousands of years those who proclaim the message of repentance have been mistreated, abused and killed for simply loving God enough to share Him with others. The kingdom of God will be taken away from those who only have a profession of faith and given to those who produce the fruit. (Matthew 21:43) Indeed many are called to the kingdom, but few are chosen.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your word that is true and stands throughout the ages. Thank You for hearing my prayer of repentance and forgiving me my sins. Through the powerful sacrifice of Christ I have the strength to overcome sin and live in a manner that pleases You. Praise and honor to Your name for providing such a powerful sacrifice on my behalf! Dear Jesus, open the hears of those You have chosen to hear the message of repentance and come quickly and deliver Your people from wickedness, in Jesus name, Amen!

“Humble, Submissive and Obedient”

November 24, 2011 (Matthew 17-19)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3 NASB

Observation: The disciples wanted to know who was greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus set a child before them and said, “unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven”. The disciples were starting to desire positions of authority rather than positions of service. Jesus instructed them to be like children when it comes to status; humble, submissive and obedient.

Application: Everybody wants to build the kingdom, but few are willing to read the instructions. When our desire to lead is fueled by our hunger for authority over others we have veered off course. Our desire for social status has become more important than God’s will or calling in our life. Many strive to lead that have never been called to do so by God. When we choose this path our priorities get all out of whack and we begin seeking the wrong things. We must approach Christ and His kingdom humbly, submissively and obediently.

Prayer: Dear Lord thank You for this day. Praise and glory to You the awesome God of heaven and the whole earth.Help me Father approach You as a child, humble and submissive. Place a desire within my heart to be obedient to Christ and His word. Use me in a way that You see fit. Help me understand where You’ve called me and how to abide in that calling. In Jesus name, Amen!

“Vain Worship”

November 23, 2011 (Matthew 14-16)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture:But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.” Matthew 15:9 NASB

Observation: The religious service the Scribes and Pharisees were offering God was man created. They added to the scripture things that were of no eternal value in an effort to make it look like they were holy. There tradition had become their god. The idol of tradition had been set up by them, for them. They were so impressed with their own ideas that it blinded them from seeing the Truth stand right before them.

Application: The precepts of men are still being taught as doctrines today. We add to the scripture and twist it to fit what we have made up in our minds to believe because it feels good. Faith that is based on anything other than God’s Holy Word is faith in vain. Just because we profess something with our mouth, that don’t make it so. Often our worship is in vain because we worship the idol of Christianity instead of the God of heaven. God is a Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Prayer: Our Father which art in heaven, Holy is Your name, we pray for thy kingdom and Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive all who are indebted to us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Help me Lord to base my faith on nothing but Your Word. May the worship I offer You never be in vain, in Jesus name, Amen!

“Repentance is Required”

November 22, 2011 (Matthew 11-13)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “Then He begin to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent.” Matthew 11:20 NASB

Observation: Jesus did many miracles that people saw with their own eyes, yet they didn’t see. They continued to walk to same way they were walking before their encounter with Jesus. They did not repent so Jesus denounced them openly. He went on to tell them the day of judgement was not going to be good for them.

Application: Oh how this still takes place today. Jesus is performing miracles all around us that we see with our eyes, but seeing we still don’t see. Hearing we still don’t hear. We want all the benefits of serving Christ without the dedication or commitment required. To surrender 100% to Christ is the only option. 85% is not enough. Just as the cities were denounced by Christ for not repenting, so will Christ denounce us if we continue to walk in sin and refuse to repent and surrender to Him completely.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace. Even though Your mercy and grace are far above my understanding I see and appreciate the value of both in my life. Help my eyes to see. Help my ears to hear. Father I repent of all sin and filthiness of the flesh that stains me. Wash and cleanse me in the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Make me clean and holy in Your site. I dedicate myself to You in every way I know and understand today. Help me stay committed to You and endure until the end no matter what, in Jesus name, Amen!

“Jesus, Go Away”

November 21, 2011 (Matthew 8-10)

From the Life Journal of Adam Proux:

Scripture: “And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they implored Him to leave their region.” Matthew 8:34 NASB

Observation: Jesus came across two demon possessed men that were so violent that people could’nt even pass by where they were. Jesus cast out the demons and they entered into a herd of swine. When the demons entered into the swine the pigs ran down a steep hill right into the sea and were killed. When the town people heard what had happened they asked Jesus to leave their town and not come back. They were more concerned about the pigs they lost than the two men who were delivered.

Application: Many people today ask Jesus to leave their town too. They had rather live with demon oppression than be delivered and lose what they value. It’s strange to think that a person could actually like and value such things but it does happen. How many people do you know that are holding on to drugs, alcohol or addictions that are obviously bad for them? Yet when you try to talk to them about Jesus, they say “go on and leave me alone! I don’t want to hear about Jesus!” Jesus is the answer to all of man’s problems. He is available to all who surrender to Him and diligently seek Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord forgive me for holding onto things that have no eternal value. I invite You into every aspect of my life. I want You in my town, in my life, in my thoughts, in my actions, in my world! I surrender to You Lord, help me! Deliver me from the oppression satan desires against me, in Jesus name, Amen!
